History of the Casino
Corfu's Casino is the first after-war casino to ever operate on Greek soil.
It opened for the first time back in 1962 at the historic building of Achilleon, on lease in a twenty year contract with a German company. The company took on the rebuilding and restoration of Achilleon and collected a lot of the lost and sold items and works of art that decorated the palace.
It was decided in 1988 from E.O.T. (Hellenic Tourist Properties S.A.) that the casino would be moved to the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel. The reason behind this decision was to attract higher level players. In 1991 the casino functioned both at the palace of Achilleon and the Corfu Holiday Palace hotel after the intervention from the residence of Gastrouri, while a year later it continued to operate exclusively at the hotel grounds.
In the year 2000 the administration and the Casino of Corfu's property items went to the Greek Tourism Development Co.
Operation information
The Casino of Corfu operates at the Corfu Holiday Palace, at specially decorated areas that span 900 square meters in diameter, 620 square meters of it comprising the many games for its customers, and 280 square meters are used exclusively for the players parking spaces.
The Casino's visitors have to be 23 years old and must be carrying a form of identification, such as an ID card, or a valid passport.
